We like the way he moves...
NERVO are the latest musical sensation from Australia, currently surfing a huge critical wave that’s also set to result in a spectacular splash of chart success. If you caught their explosive DJ set at this year’s International Music Summit Grand Finale at Dalt Vila – performing before David Guetta took to the stage – then you’ll already know the reason why.
Melbourne twins Mim and Liv Nervo are already hugely accomplished songwriters for chart-topping international artists such as Kylie Minogue, Ke$ha and Guetta himself, as well as being talented producers and DJs in their own right. And now, after years of working behind the scenes, these sassy young women are about to release their debut album on EMI/Virgin – just after they’ve finished touring with Britney Spears as her warm-up DJs.
We caught Nervo at the Pacha terrace after finishing their set for Pate Tong's party:
Their close relationship with Guetta began when they composed his colossal collaboration track with Kelly Rowland, ‘When Love Takes Over’, in 2009, which went on to win a Grammy and top numerous charts around the world. So finally, after plugging away for years at pitching and writing songs for artists – but still having to subsidise themselves with working in bars – it was then that everything changed for them. “We were working with Kelly Rowland and she’d just met David in Cannes and he’d given her a track. We were like, ‘His stuff is hot’ so we wrote ‘When Love Takes Over’ over the top,” says Liv.
Despite writing songs for the pop world, Liv and Mim were always slightly more excited about electronic music and since moving to London have spent as much time as possible in Ibiza. “We’ve been coming to Ibiza for about six years now. We’ve always loved club music and as soon as we heard Ibiza was the mecca for club music we couldn’t wait to get there,” says Mim.
