DJ Competition

The Movida Corona DJ Championships are well under way...

The National finals of the Movida Coronita DJ Championships are well under way - DJs from 10 countries have battled through local and regional finals to reach the national final with the chance to compete in the International Final at Pacha Madrid on the days of 11th and 12th November.

The winning prize is for the DJ to play in one of the Pacha clubs as a headline set, also to mix a DJ Session on three seperate Pacha Recordings Mix Compilations in 2012, one for Europe, one for Sth America or Russia and one for Middle East/Asia.

The winner will also be invited to remix tracks for Pacha Recordings, have the opportunity to be a signed artist on the label, and tour with the label across the world in 2012 - it is a life changing winning prize for the eventual winner -the best example being the last winner of the Pacha prize Josef Bamba from Tromso in Norway, who has gone from an unknown winner to touring the world and making music as a professional artist since winning the prize in 2008.

Pacha Recordings Director Steve Hulme has been in attendance at the national finals as the head judge in panals of three judges, and the reports coming back from the finals are good - "the level of talent is extremely high, higher than we could have ever expected, these young djs know their equipment and tracks inside out, they manipulate the CDJs and Mixing Desk to such a level of skill it is frightening and uplifting in equal measures"....

The finals continue across Europe, last weekend the Italian and Benelux finals – taking place in Milan and Antwerp respectively. The organization of the finals has been incredible, but the talent of the finalists even more so, the decision to pick the winners at each event is always a blessing and a curse – a blessing because it is a step towards making young talented Djs dreams come true and a curse because we have to pass on some fantastic talent that didn’t win on the night.

In Italy 1500 people crammed in to a top nightclub of the city, home to events by major artists like Paul Van Dyke, Luciano and others, the young Djs didn’t let it overawe them and all gave spirited performances, but the star of the night was the eventual winner from Bari, Alex Pala, who played a simply brilliant set, filled with hypnotic, twisted beats, classic gems and unheard off diamonds… His performance and set were flawless. The next night was on to another major club, this time in Antwerp, where three guys from the Benelux countries battled it out with inspiring 30 minute sets, all three looked at home and comfortable in the booth, their selections were all pretty pitch perfect and the technical side was almost equal too, the decision was only a point or two away from a split decision across the three DJs but Greg B was the one who shaded it against fierce competition on the night and he now travels to Madrid for the semifinal on the 11th Nov and will fight to make it to the grand final itself on the 12th and the chance to win at Pacha Madrid.”

Report from judge - Steve Hulme (Pacha Recordings)

Next finals are for Scandinavia and Spain this weekend, and then the following weekend on to the semi and grand finals themselves in Madrid.
